While running is great for the body, it can be murder on the girls. For those of us with ample bosoms finding a bra with support can be tricky. Not only should the bra support your breast but your back as well. Your bra should be a snug fit, and if your bra has the adjustment capabilities make sure the band is tight but not so tight it restricts your breathing. Cuz breathing is yanno important and stuff. So I came up with this lil bra buying guide.
Breast movement is hard to reduce, because breast lack the intrinsic support of other parts of the body. The primary support structures in breasts are Coopers ligaments with skin be the second support. Cooper's ligaments are thin bands interwoven in the breast and are not very strong. During physical excercies these ligaments are loaded which leads to stretching and sagging. YUCK! Also, improperly supported boobs can lead cause stress on your neck and back as well, this is especially true for larger breasted women.
A proper sportsbra is needed to combat all of these issues bottomline. A proper bra should not only support you but prevent vertical and lateral movement when you are working out. Above are 2 of my fave "no bounce" sports bras.
This is the Enell bra ($60), it has front fastening hooks, extra thick straps, is double layered, wire free and is a compression bra. It's a fave among equestrians, and Hollywood including Oprah and Drew Barrymore. The key to finding your size with the Enell is actually taking your measurements with your regular bra on. I've been wearing this brand for 2 years and I can honestly say it holds me in, supports my back and the girls don't bounce at all. My pet peeves are while it claims to have wicking properties.. if you're a sweaty chick like me it's not enough. Also, this bra can be tricky to get on, you have to start fastening from the bottom and work your way up kinda like a shirt. The hooks can be annoying esp. when u're trying to rush out of the door. Fits sizes 32c - 52F ... YES F.

My fave right now is the CWX Xtra Support Bra by Wacoal($55). This bra not only has the support, (thanks to a crisscross back and thick supportive straps) but Coolmax technology for breathability and wicking. It's super comfy and keeps the girls tucked in nice and safe without the mo bounce to the ounce effect. The cups are wireless but molded so it hugs each breast comfortably. I love this bra for warm days the enell can be a little cumbersome when the temps are above 65. Fits sizes 32C - 38DD. Also available in a zipper front which goes up to a 40DD.
- Always HANDWASH your bras in cold water and mild detergent. They last longer.
- Wash your bras after each workout, sweat and heat break down the fibers that offer all of that wonderful support.
- When trying on bras.. jump up and down..twist side to side. Make sure the bra allows you to move without shifting, binding or yuck CHAFING.
- Bra should be snug enough to fit one finger underneath the front and back and 2 fingers under each strap. No, over spillage (4 boob effect)and your breast should be centered.
- If you are losing weight, your measurements will change and so will your bra size. Replace it.
- Bras don't last forever.. if it starts feeling less supportive. Replace it.
