It didn't take too much convincing to have two of my girls to wake up at 7AM to head out for a not-so specific bike ride this morning. I just said, "I have to train, I'm starting along Crissy Field and going over Golden Gate bridge..let's start the adventure and see where we end up"
Picked up Mary and Eva and drove over to Aquatic Park. I looked up bike rentals and "Blazing Saddles" (http://www.blazingsaddles.com) was the spot! They rent hybrid to road bikes specifically for the adventurous tourist. It's also good for those that don't have a good bike for long distance. Eva and Mary got really cool Fuji Hybrids! They offered up the helmets, bike routes, ferry tickets for the return and a map. That's all we needed and off we go at 9AM! The girls went a little slow but this is their first long distance. They did AWESOME! The first steep hill came right before riding across Golden Gate bridge. Once we all met up on the other side, we decided to keep going and went on a downhill FAST ride to Sausalito! At 10:30, we stopped at Cafe Trieste for breakfast and coffee. This is a popular bike stop. Took our leisurely time and mounted up again at 11:30AM. Rolling to flat terrain on through Sausalito into Tiburon, where we got slightly lost bringing us on a notso cool mile along a busy highway, finally veered off on a bike path into the neighborhoods. It didn't matter since we were not on a timed schedule. This gave us the opportunity to ride through residential neighborhoods to check out some beautiful houses! Winding thru we had fabulous views of the bay looking out toward San Francisco. We could see the Legion of Honor's gold dome and the bridge and we were in awe as too how far we road. It was blazing hot too!
Ended at the Tiburon Ferry where there were cute shops and cafes. It never fails when I'm with these two ladies. The first boutique we look in, is a gem of affordable handbags, sandals and heels. Low and behold we shop and each of us leave with a pair of shoes! Sat down for some iced tea, crepes filled with fruit and shared chicken panini sandwich. At 2:30PM we boarded the ferry. There was no way we were riding back (it's all up hill!). Gorgeous ride on the ferry back to Pier 39, dropped off the bikes and gave each other high fives for a fun day!!
I got a tan too! Woohoo! Click View Full View to Zoom In.
